Optimizing the Health of Cats & Dogs Through Diet

Based on your furry friend's age, breed, species, and health status, their dietary needs and preferences can change significantly. Our Lethbridge veterinary team offers nutritional counselling to help determine the best foods for your cat or dog.

Whether you're looking for specific diets formulated to help your cat battle a health issue or you want to help your dog lose weight, our nutritional counselling can help you make the right choice for your companion.

We also stock a range of prescription diet foods right in our hospital, featuring renowned brands such as Royal Canin, Hills, and Purina.

The Nutritional Counselling Process

We’ll start by conducting a physical exam and a health analysis to determine your dog or cat’s health status and nutritional requirements. We'll then use that information to develop an appropriate food plan to treat health problems and meet their specific needs.

We may recommend using prescription diet food products if we feel they will have added benefits for your pet that regular products do not.

Throughout your pet's lifecycle, their nutritional needs will continue to change and evolve. We will revisit your furry friend's plan from time to time to make sure it is still the most effective way to help optimize your dog or cat's health.

How Can Nutritional Counselling Help?

Our nutritional counselling services can help address concerns you might have with your pet's nutrition and health. In many cases, specialized diets can be used to treat issues such as kidney disease and diabetes. Our counselling services can also help you:

  • Manage your pet's food allergies
  • Decode nutritional labels
  • Manage health conditions such as osteoarthritis
  • Help your pet achieve a healthy weight
  • Learn which and how much food to feed your pet
  • Choose food for your pet based on their needs and your budget
