The Importance of Regularly Scheduled Pet Checkups

Annual wellness exams play a critical role in maintaining your dog or cat's long-term good health. They should be combined with proper nutritionregular vaccinations and parasite prevention to form a comprehensive preventive care plan.

These comprehensive checkups allow your veterinarian to monitor your furry friend's health and behaviour over time, increasing the likelihood of quickly spotting and addressing any issues.

Routine checkups also offer you a chance to discuss any questions you have about your dog or cat's behaviour or diet with your veterinarian.

What to Expect During an Exam

During your dog or cat's routine exam at Chinook Pet Clinic, the veterinarian will perform a thorough physical checkup to get a clear picture of your companion's overall health.

Your veterinarian will also check whether your dog or cat is due for any routine vaccinations or preventive care and administer any vaccines that are due.

Once your pet's exam has been completed, your veterinarian will take time to discuss any concerns they may have about your pet's overall health and talk to you about their nutritional requirements.

Exams at our Lethbridge veterinary clinic typically include an assessment of each of the following elements of your pet's health:

Checkups for Puppies & Kittens

To help get your adorable new fur baby off to a healthy start, proper medical attention is essential throughout the first few weeks of life. Our team will perform a detailed physical examination of your puppy or kitten and provide immunizations and deworming medication as needed. We will also test for other types of parasites.

Once your puppy or kitten's first checkup is complete, you will need to bring them in periodically for their required booster shots

Checkups for Seniors

As dogs and cats enter their senior years, regular examinations play an increasingly important role in ensuring their continued good health and longevity. During your senior pet's wellness exam, your veterinarian will be particularly watchful for signs of age-related conditions, such as diabetes, arthritis or decreased vision.

Additional lab testing may be recommended for aging pets. These tests can provide your veterinarian with additional insights into your companion's internal health, allowing for a more detailed diagnosis and targeted, proactive treatments.
